Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio Related to Patients Outcome in Moderate Head Injury Patients with Intracerebral Hemorrhage
Views: 646Downloads: 663Background. Head injury is still a major health problem that is a common cause of disability and death. Moderate head injuries are quite common with outcomes varying patient examination of neutrophils and lymphocytes is quite routinely carried out in health services and the combination of these two values has a stronger predictive value for assessing outcomes in patients because it describes an inflammatory reaction. The GOS is a commonly used scale for classifying patient outcomes. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the ratio of neutrophil-lymphocytes (RNL) to the Glascow outcome scale (GOS) in moderate head injury patients with intracerebral hemorrhage.
Methods. This study has a cross-sectional with samples from moderate head injury patients with CT scan images of intracerebral hemorrhage in Dr. M. Djamil Padang in 2021 and 2022. The data comes from medical records and observations of samples that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 36 subjects participated in this study.
Results. Most of the subjects (61.1%) were male. A total of 55.6% of subjects had RNL ≥ 7.35 with 44.4% of subjects having poor GOS. In this study, a statistically significant relationship was found between the ratio of neutrophil- lymphocytes in patients with moderate head injury with intracerebral hemorrhage and the Glasgow outcome scale (p-value = 0.005).
Conclusion. RNL can predict outcomes in moderate head injury patients with intracerebral hemorrhage.

The Potential of Bilimbi Leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) Extract as Irrigation Solution to Remove Smear Layer in Dental Root Canal: An Invitro Study
Views: 1,791Downloads: 1,011Background: Root canal treatment is performed to eliminate the infection in the pulp tissue. One of the critical steps in root canal treatment is irrigation, which aims to clean debris and smear layer. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of star fruit extract (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn) at concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% with EDTA 17% in cleaning the smear layer on the one-third of apical root canals.
Methods: This type of research is an experimental in vitro laboratory with a post-test only control group design. The sample of this study consisted of 25 premolars which were randomly divided into five groups. The teeth were instrumented with a K-file and irrigated with the following materials: groups I, II, III, and IV using bilimbi leaves extract, each with concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% and group V (positive control). ) using 17% EDTA. SEM (scanning electron microscope) was used to measure the cleanliness score of the smear layer on the apical third of the root canal. This study showed that bilimbi leaves extract was able to clean the smear layer on the one-third of the apical root canal.
Results: The results of the Kruskal-Wallis statistical test showed a significant difference (p<0.05) between all treatment groups. The highest average smear layer cleanliness score in the apical third of the root canals was EDTA 17%, while the lowest average smear layer cleanliness score was 5% bilimbi leaves extract.
Conclusion: Bilimbi leaves extract with a concentration of 20% was considered more effective among the extract groups, and 17% EDTA was the most effective in cleaning the smear layer on one-third of the root canals.

The Effect of Multilevel Doses of Caffeine on Tissue Macrophage and Blood Lymphocyte Count in Autologous Full Thickness Skin Graft Healing in Sprague Dawley Rats
Views: 894Downloads: 2,303Backgrounds. A skin graft is one of the routine surgical procedures performed. This procedure gives excellent results when done as early as possible after the trauma. Caffeine has a mechanism as an adenosine-receptor A2 antagonist which can induce wound healing through increased angiogenesis. This study aimed to determine the efficacy of coffee caffeine in the initiation of full thickness skin graft autologous wound healing by assessing the number of macrophages and lymphocytes in Sprague-Dawley rats.
Methods. The research design is an experimental study with a post-test-only approach with a control group design. Twenty male Sprague Dawley rats aged 15 weeks (140 – 150 grams) were randomly divided into four groups. One group became the control group (decaffeinated) while the other group received various doses of caffeine (3 mg/kgBW, 6 mg/kgBW, and 9 mg/kgBW). Autologous skin grafts were performed in all groups. HE examination was performed to confirm the number of macrophage cells in the tissue. Data analysis was carried out with the help of SPSS 25 software.
Results. There were significant differences in the number of tissue macrophages in the four groups. The group that received 9 mg/kgBW of caffeine showed the highest number of macrophages compared to the other groups. Based on the number of lymphocytes in the peripheral blood, the group that received a dose of 6 mg/kg BW showed the highest number of lymphocytes compared to other groups.
Conclusion. Caffeine showed the ability to initiate full thickness skin graft autologous wound healing by increasing the number of macrophages and lymphocytes in Sprague Dawley rats.

Capability of Rice Husk Silica on Flexural Improvement in Metal Ceramic Restoration
Views: 687Downloads: 480Background: Metal ceramic restoration (MCR) is a gold standard due to its ability to withstand masticatory forces and aesthetics. However, it frequently appears to experience a fracture in the oral cavity. The ceramics in MCR consist of an opaque dentin and enamel layer, which contain silica to give the ceramic strength. Silica is an abundant material, mainly synthesized from rice husks. The study was aimed to investigate the effect of silica added to commercially opaque porcelain powder in increasing the flexural strength of MCR.
Methods: The research sample was rectangular Co-Cr metal [(25±1) mm × (3±0.1) mm × (0.5 ± 0.05) mm], and opaque porcelain powder and dentin [(8±0.1) mm× (3±0.1) mm ×(1.1±0.1) mm]. White silica powder was synthesized from rice husk by sonication for 270 minutes, characterized by x-ray fluorescence (XRF). Silica was mixed with commercial opaque porcelain powder with various concentrations of 0, 0.5, and 1%, porcelain coating procedure on the centre of the surface metal, followed by sintering at 9500C.
Results: Characterization with XRF showed that the elemental content of pure silica was 83.9%. The average flexural strength value with three-point bending in each sample is 109.67±12.163; 131.26±3.817; and 108.35±4.26. The results of statistical tests using One Way ANOVA stated a significant increase in the flexural strength of MCR (p<0.05) post added the rice husk silica to the commercial opaque porcelain powder.
Conclusion: Adding 0.5% silica resulted in the optimal flexural strength of MCR.

Differences Post Delivery of Term Pregnancy Mean Maternal Serum Magnesium Level with Low Versus Normal Birth Weight

Birth weight is usually used as an indicator of the well-being of the newborn and as an indirect measure of intrauterine nutrition during pregnancy and the mother's nutritional status during pregnancy. Magnesium contribute as a cofactor for various enzymes in the human body for metabolic processes. Fetal magnesium is obtained from maternal by transport through the placenta. In conditions of low magnesium levels will affect the epigenetic process, HPA-axis and GH-IGF axis of the fetus which in turn will result in fetal growth disorders. This study aims to determine the differences postdelivery serum magnesium levels of women at term pregnancy who give birth with low vs normal birth weight.
Methods. This study used an observational analytic method with a cross sectional approach. Conducted from April 2020-December 2020 at Dr. M. Djamil Padang Central General Hospital and Network Hospital Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University. Total of 44 samples were divided into 2 groups, women who gave birth with low and normal birth weight babies. Samples was carried out at the Pramitha Padang Private Clinical Laboratory.
Results: The mean maternal serum magnesium level in low birth weight group was 1.97 ± 0.16 mg/dL lower than normal birth weight group was 2.06 ± 0.14 mg/dL. Statistic test using the independent sample T test showed no differences in both groups (p = 0.064).
Conclusion. The mean maternal serum magnesium level in low birth weight 1.97±0.16 mg/dL. The mean maternal serum magnesium level in normal birth weight was 2.06 ± 0.14 mg/dL. There was no significant difference on both groups.

Diagnosis and Management of Vesicouterine Fistula (Youssef’s Syndrome): A Case Report
Views: 1,543Downloads: 861Background. Vesicouterine fistula (VUF) is a rare pathological communication between the uterus or cervix and the bladder. Youssef's syndrome is an atypical presentation of a patient with a vesicouterine fistula, characterized by a triad of cyclic hematuria, amenorrhea, and absence of urinary incontinence. Because of this atypical presentation, the patient may go undiagnosed and patient management will be delayed.
Case presentation. A 39-year-old woman complained of hematuria. The patient underwent a second caesarean section in 2008 and a few weeks after the procedure the patient complained of leakage of urine from her vagina. Six months later the patient complained hematuria on her menstrual cycle and amenorrhea, with absence of urinary incontinence. Ultrasound examination found adhesions between the uterus and vagina, and irregular bladder mucosa. Patient underwent cystoscopy with endometriosis were suspected on vesicovaginal repair scars and a bladder biopsy was also performed with the results of no endometrial stroma and glands then followed by hysteroscopy. Hysteroscopy result showed a 20 mm diameter hole with irregular margins. Subsequently, the patient was treated with hysterorrhaphy laparotomy and fistula repair.
Conclusion. One type of vesicouterine fistula is Youssef's syndrome, which is a complication following a lower segment caesarean section with undiagnosed bladder injury. The diagnosis can be confirmed by cystoscopy, intravenous pyelography, hysterosalpingogram, sonography, and other types of imaging tests. Management of patients with VUF can be conservative, medical, or surgical.

The Effects of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) Immersion Water on Changes in High-Density Lipoprotein and Low-Density Lipoprotein Levels in High Fat Diet Wistar Rat Model

The mortality rate due to cardiovascular disease increases; one of the effects of hypercholesterolemia conditions, dyslipidemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and metabolic syndrome, not handled properly and thoroughly. This phenomenon becomes the factor that the researchers took this research topic. This study aims to determine okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) immersion water on an increase in high density lipoprotein (HDL) levels and decrease in LDL (low density lipoprotein) levels in high fat diet model Wistar rats.
Methods. This experimental study used 30 Wistar male rats (Rattus norvegicus) divided into six groups, namely normal rats (P1), positive control (P2), standard (P3), dose 1 treatment groups (P4), dose 2 treatment groups (P5), and dose 2 treatment groups (P6). The data were collected by measuring HDL and LDL levels before and after receiving okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) immersion water. The data were analyzed by paired sample t-test, Wilcoxon test, ANOVA test and Kruskal-Wallis test.
Results. This research showed a significant difference in the average level of HDL and LDL in all treatment groups (P4, P5, and P6) after induction of Abelmoschus esculentus L. in a high-fat diet rat model (p <0.05).
Conclusion. It can be concluded that the administration of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) immersion water could be used to increase HDL levels and decrease LDL levels in high fat diet model Wistar rats (p <0.05).

Latent Syphilis Unresponsive to Doxycycline and Azithromycin
Views: 1,126Downloads: 6,702Background. Syphilis management is based on the syphilis stage classification. The main treatment for syphilis is currently benzathine penicillin. However, patients allergic to penicillin antibiotics or who are not willing to be injected can be given doxycycline or erythromycin antibiotics.
Case presentation. We present a case of a female with latent syphilis. Patient was previously treated with oral antibiotics, such as doxycycline for 30 days and followed by azithromycin for 30 consecutive days. Clinical laboratory examinations show increase of TPHA and VDRL, and the case was considered as unresponsive case. Later, the patients received benzathine penicillin G for three weeks and showed clinical improvement.
Conclusion. For patient who refuse to be treated with penicillin injection, the alternative treatments are oral antibiotics. However, there is a reduced number of successful treatments for patients treated with oral antibiotics.

Potential of Red Betel Leaf Extract (Piper crocatum) and Siwak (Salvadora persica) Against Staphylococcus Aureus Bacteria
Views: 878Downloads: 601Background. One of the bacteria that cause oral cavity infection is Staphylococcus aureus. This study aims to explore the antibacterial potential of red betel extract and siwak extract against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, in vitro.
Methods. This research is an in vitro experimental study to assess the diameter of the inhibition zone of red betel leaf extract and siwak against Staphylococcus aureus. The extract was made from red betel leaf simplicia and siwak wood with a dose of 50% each. The bacterial suspension was made by taking one pure colony from a test tube. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 25 software.
Results. Red betel leaf extract 50% showed the largest diameter of the inhibition zone, namely 9.1 ± 0.68 mm. Meanwhile, the siwak extract showed a smaller inhibition zone diameter of 7.9 ± 0.68 mm. One-way ANOVA analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the diameters of the inhibition zones of each test group.
Conclusion. Red betel leaf extracts are 50% greater in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus than 50% siwak extract.

Risk Factors Related Amputation on Diabetic Foot Patients in Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital Padang
Views: 782Downloads: 505Backgrounds. Diabetic foot is the most common cause of nontraumatic lower-extremity amputation. This study aims to assess the relationship of risk factors with the incidence of amputation in diabetic foot patients based on the Wagner classification at Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital Padang.
Methods. The study design is an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 46 diabetes mellitus patients with diabetic foot complications participated in this study. The risk factors assessed were gender, age, smoking status, hypertension, uncontrolled blood sugar, hypoalbumin, peripheral arterial disease, infection, and peripheral neuropathy. The assessment of the degree of diabetic foot complications was carried out using the Wagner classification.
Results. The most age group for diabetic foot sufferers is the age group of 41-60 years, which is 57.7% with the male sex being more dominant (59.6%) than the female gender. In the subject, there were more patients with the Wagner 4 classification (32.7%) than the other classification levels. Based on direct observation of patients, it was found that 53.8% of diabetic foot patients were amputated. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that PAD (peripheral arterial disease) and peripheral neuropathy are variables that significantly affect amputation.
Conclusion. Peripheral neuropathy and peripheral arterial disease are associated with amputation and peripheral arterial disease is a major risk factor for amputation in diabetic foot patients based on the Wagner classification.

Post-Concussion Syndrome Latent Onset Related to Intracranial Lesion on Head Injury Patient in Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital Padang
Views: 667Downloads: 435Background. Post-concussion syndrome is associated with damaged axons in patients with a mild head injury but little is known about their consequences for brain tissue. This study aims to examine the relationship between latent onset post-concussion and intracranial lesions in head injury patients at Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital Padang.
Methods. The research design is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 25 patients with head injuries participated in this study with inclusion criteria being hospitalized patients alive without physical and mental disabilities and patients diagnosed with latent onset post-concussion syndrome (PCS) without any additional diagnoses for patients with a history of trauma.
Results. The average age of the respondents in this study was 34.08 ± 17.45 years and more than half of the respondents were male, namely 18 (72%) respondents. half of respondents with persistent PCS symptoms > 6 months experienced EDH, as many as 5 (55.6%) respondents, ICH 2 (66.7%) respondents, and cerebral contusion 6 (60%) respondents. The results of statistical tests showed that there was no relationship between latent onset PCS and lesion appearance (p>0.05). The results of statistical tests showed that there was no relationship between latent onset PCS and the degree of head injury (p>0.05).
Conclusion. There is no significant relationship between post-concussion syndrome (PCS) latent onset with a degree of head injury and lesion description in head injury patients at Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital Padang.

Correlation of Voice Handicap Index 10 with Reflux Symptom Index and Reflux Finding Score in Patients with Dysphonia
Views: 1,122Downloads: 512Background. Voice disturbance occurs when the quality, pitch, loudness, or flexibility of other people's voices differ according to age, gender, and similar cultural groups. The Voice Handicap Index (VHI) is one of the most widely used tools worldwide to measure the physical, functional, and emotional aspects of voice disorders. This study aims to determine the correlation of voice handicap index-10 with reflux symptom index and reflux finding scores in patients with dysphonia complaints at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang.
Methods. This study is a cross-sectional study using a correlation test design that aims to determine the correlation between VHI-10 and RSI and RFS in patients with dysphonia complaints.
Results. The sample of this study includes the demographic factors of the research subjects, namely age, gender, and occupation. This study shows that patients with RFS ≥ 7 affect the VHI-10 score ≥ 11 with a proportion of 72%.
Conclusion. There is a moderate positive correlation between the RFS score and the VHI-10 score, where the higher the RFS value, the higher the VHI-10 score in patients with dysphonic complaints.

Comparison of Burn Wound Histopathology Imaging between Epidermal Growth Factor Spray and Silver Sulfadiazine Application: An Invivo Study
Views: 871Downloads: 1,375Background. Luka bakar adalah luka pada kulit atau jaringan organik lain yang dapat disebabkan oleh panas, radiasi, listrik, dan kontak dengan bahan-bahan kimia. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan gambaran histopatologi luka bakar derajat 2 dengan pemberian epidermal growth factor (EGF) spray dengan silver sulfadiazine (SSD) pada hewan coba.
Methods. Desain penelitian ialah studi eksperimental dengan pendekatan post test only with control grup design. Sebanyak 27 ekor healthy male Wistar rats digunakan dalam studi ini (berat 200-300 gram; usia 8 minggu). Hewan coba dikelompokkan menjadi 3 kelompok yakni kelompok control (K), kelompok perlakuan EGF spray (EGF) dan kelompok perlakuan silver sulfadiazine 1% (SSD). Pemeriksaan histopatologi luka dilakukan dengan pewarnaan hematoxylin-eosin. penilaian histopatologi dengan kriteria Burkitt.
Results. Rata-rata pengukuran ketebalan epidermis permukaan luka bakar pada kelompok perlakuan baik SSD maupun EGF memperlihatkan epidermis yang lebih tebal dibandingkan kelompok kontrol. kepadatan leukosit pada jaringan granulasi kelompok perlakuan SSD maupun EGF lebih rendah dibandingkan kelompok kontrol, yaitu 107,0 dan 85.
Conclusion. Pemberian EGF spray menunjukkan gambaran histopatologi yang lebih baik dibandingkan kelompok kontrol dan kelompok SSD pada luka bakar derajat 2, terutama pada proses regeneratif sel, penekanan inflamasi, dan perbaikan epitelial.

The Comparison of p16 Protein Expression between Single and Multiple Seborrheic Keratosis
Views: 1,143Downloads: 505Background. Seborrheic keratosis (SK) is a benign epithelial tumor that attacks adults, the elderly, and an increasing number of age-related lesions. Various risk factors influence the pathogenesis of SK, including genetic predisposition and sun exposure. Recently, SK associated with a theory of keratinocytes aging. The aging prevents unlimited and uncontrolled growth of damaged cells, thereby preventing degeneration, but on the other hand, increases the resistance of the cells to apoptosis. From previous studies, the expression of p16 protein increased substantially with age, thus enabling it to be a biomarker of cellular aging at the molecular level. This study was aimed to determine p16 protein expression between single and multiple seborrheic keratoses, the relationship between p16 protein expression in single and multiple SK, and p16 protein expression in the elderly.
Methods. Observational study with a cross-sectional design was used to determine the comparison of p16 protein expression between single and multiple seborrheic keratoses was conducted from December 1, 2021, to January 31, 2022. According to the inclusion criteria, study participants with a total of 42 people were selected through the consecutive sampling method. Physical examinations, dermoscopic and histopathologic were carried out until the results were obtained. Then the data were analyzed using the Fisher Test, Chi-Square, with a 95% confidence interval (p <0.05).
Results. Most SK patients were found in the age range of 60-69 years (38%), male gender (54.8%), sun-related occasional 3-6 hour per day (50%), location of SK in sun-exposed areas (83.3%), the number of multiple lesions (69%), size 1-2 cm (57.1%), disease duration > 3 years (54.8%), and have no comorbid (69%), an acanthotic subtype of SK (40.5%). All single SK patients have a negative-weak expression of p16 protein (38.2%). Multiple SK patients have a moderate-strong expression of p16 protein (100%) and negative-weak expression of p16 protein (61.8%). Based on statistical analysis using Fisher Exact test has a statistically significant to p16 protein expression with number SK lesion (p-value 0,043).
Conclusion. There is a significant correlation between p16 protein expression with single and multiple SK. The study has several limitations. The sample size was small. Other supporting examinations are needed in SK, including polymerase chain reaction (PCR).

Arrhythmia Mechanism on Diabetes Mellitus: A Narrative Review

The mechanism of arrhythmias in patients with diabetes mellitus is complex and unique. This is an independent factor in the occurrence of arrhythmias through several slightly different mechanisms in non-diabetics. Hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, remodeling, autonomic neuropathic dysfunction, fibrosis, and oxidative changes, and metabolic stress play an important role in the occurrence of arrhythmias in diabetes. This narrative review was at least to describe the mechanism of arrhythmia in diabetes mellitus.

Inhibitory Effect of N-Hexane Fraction of Cherry Parasite (Dendrophthoe pentandra L.) on Alpha Glucosidase
Views: 719Downloads: 443Background. Cherry parasite (Dendrophthoe pentandra L.) is a semi-parasitic plant that takes food from host body, so that phytochemical same as host plant. These phytochemicals have effect to inhibiting the action of the enzyme alpha glucosidase, such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, alkaloids, and terpenoids/steroids. The aim of this study is to find out the effect of the cherry parasite to inhibiting the enzyme alpha glucosidase.
Methods. This is an in vitro experimental study. Cherry parasite was fractionated with n-hexane and reacted by enzyme. Acarbose used as a positive control. The inhibitory effect on the alpha glucosidase was determined from the IC50 value by measuring the absorbance of p-nitrophenol using spectrophotometry as a result of the reaction of the enzyme. Screening phytochemical to determine the phytochemical of n-hexane fraction. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Biochemistry and Medical Chemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya, Palembang.
Results. The yield of n-hexane fraction was 7%. Phytochemical test showed that the sample contain flavonoids and terpenoids. IC50 value of n-hexane fraction was 106,333 ppm and categorized not active.
Conclusion. The n-hexane fraction of cherry parasite contains flavonoids and terpenoids that considered not active to inhibiting the action of the enzyme alpha glucosidase.

Management of Sepsis Patient with Multiple Trauma: A Case Report
Views: 875Downloads: 989Background. In critically ill patient, source control surgery is one of the significant determinants of patient treatment and makes it successful. This case report was aimed to describe the management of sepsis patient with multiple trauma.
Case presentation. A 20-year-old woman presented with blunt trauma in the chest, abdomen, and right superior and inferior extremities. After the surgical procedure, the patient was treated in the ward with skin traction and simple wound care; a week later, the wound became worse, abscess inside, necrotic tissue and smelled terrible, and the woman had fever and jaundice somnolence, and other clinical symptoms manifested and became sepsis. She underwent twice a debridement surgery for a nasty wound. After that, she was treated in intensive care. A multidisciplinary team was required to treat the patient.
Conclusion. Surgical intervention, wound cleaning, and appropriate and adequate antibiotics are also given to prevent worsening sepsis in the future.

Happy Hypoxemia In COVID-19
Views: 844Downloads: 930The new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is becoming a global health crisis that challenges health systems around the world. The clinical spectrum of COVID-19 varies from mild upper respiratory tract infections to severe pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome, but there are also many patients present with an SpO2 < 90% but without symptoms of shortness of breath. This phenomenon is called happy hypoxemia or silent hypoxemia. Shortness of breath or dyspnea is a subjective sensation resulting from inadequate breathing effort and is usually described as constriction in the chest, difficulty breathing air or difficulty breathing. Breathing is controlled centrally by the respiratory center in the medulla oblongata and the pons region which controls the "respiratory drive" and adapts respiration to the body's metabolic needs. The mechanisms that play a role in this phenomenon include the presence of intrapulmonary shunts, loss of pulmonary perfusion regulation, vascular microthrombus and impaired pulmonary diffusion capacity.

Correlation of Interleukin-6 Levels with Clinical Features and Chest X-Ray Imaging in Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) Patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang
Views: 1,119Downloads: 720Background. COVID-19 infection, both moderate and severe symptoms can cause pneumonia that can be detected on a chest X-ray. Along with the increasing severity of the clinical picture of COVID 19, it can also trigger a cytokine storm, one of which is an increase in Interleukin-6 levels. This study was conducted to see the correlation between IL-6 levels with clinical features and chest radiographs in patients with COVID-19
Methods. This research is a cross-sectional study using an observational analytic. The samples in this study were confirmed COVID-19 patients who were being treated at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital, Palembang. A history and physical examination were performed to determine the clinical picture as well as a chest X-ray and IL-6 levels.
Results. There were 31 samples of COVID 19 patients. High levels of IL-6 were found in 26 (83.9%) samples. The clinical picture of the patient was dominated by dyspnea as much as 19 (61.3%), fever 16 (5.6%), low O2 saturation 12 (38.4%) and a chest X-ray of pneumonia 26 (83.9%). There was a significant relationship (P<0.05) between IL-6 levels with clinical features and chest X-rays. The R-value on the thorax with pneumonia (0.692), lesion area (0.711) and clinical features with temperature (0.906), respiratory rate (0.706) indicated a strong correlation, while O2 (-0.732) indicated a strong negative correlation.
Conclusion. There is a significantly strong correlation between Interleukin 6 levels with clinical features and chest X-rays in patients with COVID-19.
